Can someone give me some direction on what I can and can not eat on this diet? I am curious if this is the diet for me but want a realistic diet that I can stick to. Does anyone have a sample of what they eat starting out to give me some kind of idea of what this diet is like? and do you have good success with it? thanks!

If you haven't already, I would buy the book and get the answers to your question from there.
Hello, EHolly! You’re not much of an active player, are you?
I’ll help you out with basics, but you should do a research on your own, too. The basic line with South Beach is that it allows you to eat three times a day, have two snacks and include carbohydrates and fats, but only the “good” ones. The diet has three phases, the first two are time-conditioned and the third is like a life-regimen. The good thing is that in South Beach diet plan you loose the worry of weighing portions and counting calories, but there are some simple things to consider.
First of all, the first phase strictly excludes carbs, all kinds of them, and lasts for 2 weeks. The second phase allows you to eat some of the excluded foods, but so that it keeps you loosing approximately 2 pounds a week. Phase 2 doesn’t have a strict time limit. It lasts until you’ve lost all the weight you want. Results are maintained during phase 3, the rest of your life, that is. Whenever you experience a weight again, all you have to do is to go back to phase 1.
I’m in phase 2 right now and I’ve lost 15 pounds already. I’m very happy with it! Good luck!

Thanks, Beeswaxster! You’re a good team-player!
What I find very complicated is to keep good track of what and how much you’re eating! Could you give us a list of foods or something similar? That would really be helpful! Take care!
Ok, sisters! Let’s see how well I remember
….In phase 1 I used to eat beef, turkey, fish and chicken. Actually, skinless chicken was my regular back then. You can combine them with low fat cheese, green vegetables and eggs. When I entered phase 2 I started to introduce step by step potatoes, rice, pasta (which I couldn’t live without!
), fruit and sugar. Officially, you can also add cakes, ice cream, cookies and baked foods, but I personally wouldn’t advice it!
Is there a blacklist, too? What’s on it? Good luck, guys!
Sure there are banned foods, too! Alcohol (wine, beer, vodka, whiskey etc.), starchy foods, full fat cheese, yogurt, certain meats (chicken wings, legs, goose, duck, beef liver, rib steaks etc.) Now that I’ve lost most of the weight I wanted off, I can drink a glass of wine once in a while, but I’m not exaggerating. I’ve been working too hard for this! Any other question, I’ll be answering it gladly!
Hello, chat mates! I’ve seen you interested in South Beach diet and thought to give you a hand! Actually, some tips!
I’m in phase 3 now, I’m very happy with it and I recommended to anyone who’s up to change his eating habits for good.
Well, I couldn’t have done so far without my minimum 8 glasses of water a day. You can replace it with decaff beverages or tea, but I’d stick to water if I were you. Also, I stopped drinking coffee and started taking multivits. So much healthier!!! My doctor advised me to be cautious with calcium loss, that’s why I’ve been taking daily 500 mg of calcium (those over 50 should take 1000mg). No problem there, either!
It’s great, guys! Simple, accessible and realistic! Keep in touch!

You’ve open new horizons for me! I always thought South Beach was something that wouldn’t work too much. No effort, no calorie counting and still effective?! That’s something! Keep posting, I’m eager to find out everything about it!
Hey, Beeswaxster! I think you should tell us your diet plan for an ordinary day! That would be enlightening for the undecided, like me!
Sure I’ll tell you! At breakfast I used to have 2 scrambled eggs with or without Monterey Jack cheese, half of grapefruit (that’s my favorite fruit, you can add whatever) and 1 slice of whole grain toast. To drink I had tea, because I tried to quit on coffee. But if you have coffee, make it decaff.
At eleven I had a snack, a hard boiled egg more often than not.
At one I had lunch with green vegetables mainly (my personal favorite spinach), tortillas (no more than four) and sliced roast beef (around 8 ounces). You can add low-fat cheese to that.
At four came the second snack with fat free yogurt. At dinner, that is around 6, but never later than 7, I had mostly chicken and fruit (broccoli, lemon and grape fruit).
It’s good to have the Yes Food List around at the beginning, then let your imagination flow! Take care, everybody!

Long live America! it's the 4th of July, everybody!
Hey there! Has anyone started it? How’s it going?
I'd say Phase 1 has it's difficult moments - but it's called will-power - if you want to lose, you have to stick to it
