My Journal |
|
|
I have been reading posts on this site for a few days now. Many people have said that posting here has helped them in their journey to lose weight. That is my reason for starting this journal! I began taking Phentermine on May 27th. The plan was to pair this with a low-carb diet. However, I have fallen off the wagon every day and eaten some kind of horrible carb before it was over. I realize that I am addicted to carbs and that this may take a while for me to conquer. I used to be a smoker (1 1/2 packs a day!). It was hard for me to quit, but after about 300 tries I finally succeeded. I have not been a smoker for over 3 years now!
Anyway, I am 34 years old and have 2 children, ages 11 and 2 1/2. I have struggled with my weight for most of my life with the exception of high school when I suddenly became thin. Puberty, maybe? I don't know but it didn't last! I cannot believe I weigh as much as I do! I weighed 232 when I gave birth to my youngest son. I lost 30 lbs. within 3 weeks of his birth. I did not realize it at the time, but my thyroid was in overdrive. Unfortunately, to fix itself it basically quit working and I gained the weight back within the next 2 months. I am on thyroid meds now but they do not help you to lose what you have already gained! Actually, I am on 5 medications right now. I think that number will go down once I lose some weight!
At any rate, as of today I have lost 5 lbs. Not much, but it's a start. I have exercised a few times. I would like to exercise every day but have yet to follow through. I will keep trying though! My family is going out of town for the weekend but starting Monday, I am really going to try to cut the carbs!
Any advice anyone has would be appreciated. I have read that water is important so I have been trying to drink plenty! Thank you to those of you who have posted--you have motivated and encouraged me!! |

| Okay, I am now down to 226. I am kind of in shock because I do not feel any different and this hasn't been the treacherous misery that it usually is. This phentermine is great. Although I do not even feel that it is making much of a difference, it obviously is!! We are going out of town this weekend so we will see how much I weigh on Monday! |

So frustrating...I was down to 225 but am now at 226. I shouldn't complain b/c I truly have not been exercising and have made some really bad decisions about what to eat. For the last 2 days I haven't taken the phentermine. I woke up last Thursday with this chest congestion that came from out of nowhere and I have been feeling lousy ever since. I have a headache and cough that are killing me! Anyway, the phentermine made me feel even worse it seems. I will resume it tomorrow b/c I do feel somewhat better today.
I just really want to be down to 200 before I go back to work on August 7th. Seems like plenty of time but it goes by quick. 200 is still huge, but much better than where I am at!
My youngest son has a kidney disease (nephrotic syndrome). He just went in to relapse yesterday. Well, we found out yesterday but it started last week. The symptoms take a few days to show themselves. I know that he will be fine. He is back on steroids and antibiotics. We hopefully caught it soon enough to avoid a hospital visit this time. I am sure the stress of this hasn't helped either!
Anyway, today is packed and I still don't feel good. Maybe tomorrow will be better! |

Hi SouthernGirl,
I am really sorry to hear about your son. Stress is a negative factor and affect us negatively on different levels.
I am sure that things will work out. Do not worry, tomorrow will definitely be better |

| I am now down to 223. That is awesome, but has seemed to take forever. Although I have not been exercising, we have decided to put our house on the market so I have been painting, cleaning, and packing like a fool! Maybe that counts? Anyway, I need to get more serious about this in July. My goal is to be at 200 lbs. when I go back to work on August 7th. That's 23 pounds in approx. 5 weeks!! We'll see... |

Congratulation!
Any kind of physical activity counts. Painting, cleaning, and packing burns quite a few calories.
Good luck and keep us posted. |

Thanks Light and ZoeJ! I am now down to 221. I am glad, but don't think I will be down to 200 when I go back to work Aug. 7th. I am happy to have lost the 13 pounds that I have lost! Although it is coming off slowly I usually diet and only lose 2-3 lbs so this is progress!!
Does anyone have any suggestions as to something that is comparable to the phentermine that is over the counter (ie. GNC)? I am starting to worry about the safety of phen. I haven't had any problems but don't want to cause heart damage or anything! Maybe I am just being paranoid? |
