Why are you taking this? |
|
|
I really don't mean anyone here any offence, but I was wondering why you are taking pills. I thought that it was because you could lose more than 2lbs (maybe up to five) each week, but you can do that with healthier eating. Then I thought it was because you are too lazy to exercise, but I can see that you're doing that too, which will make you lose too.
I don't understand what part the pills play?
Once again, I don't want anyone to be offended by my question, I just wanted to know. My mum said that maybe we should try pills, and I told her what I thought. |

Hi Heavenseventeen,
Welcome to the Weight Loss Forums.
Its a good question - Why do we use diet pills/supplements?
Im my case I take diet pills for the extra energy they gave me. I usually take them before working out.
Diet pills can help but loosing weight and getting in shape can be done only with exercising and eating healthy.
I expect other people to tell why they are using diet pills and what do they expect from them. Its a really good question. |

I take them for the loss of "vanity weight." (5-8lbs)
For me, who just wants to drop a few pounds on occasion, they rev my metabolism while at the same time reducing my desire to snack at night, or knocking it out all together. Those two factors make it possible for me to achieve my goal, and achieve it quickly. |

It's a good question I suppose. And here's my take.
Some people do it for the "easy way out"
Some do it because no reasonable amount of diet and exercise can get it done - I have metabolic issues. I lost 200+ pounds with Ma Huang and gained back 100 without it. The loss was in conjunction with eating the same thing everyday for 10 months and working out daily.
I can't lose weight without the metabolic boost. Before the pills came back I would work out religously, eat around 1200 - 1500 cals. a day (at 290 lbs. and a normal metabolism I should be starving) and not lose any weight.
Now if I can take the pills, drink the water, watch my diet and workout - I will lose 2-5 lbs. a week until my goal is met.
I was to the point of bariatric surgery before the pills cam back - now I have hope again.... |

Ephedra |
|
|
I struggled with my weight from the time I was ten. I tried to lose the weight on my own (without pill assistance), and several times was able to do it but always, always felt hungry. On an emotional level, I would get angry that other people could eat whatever they wanted and never gain a pound. Also, food is such a social event. Every function you go to has food and watching everyone eat cake while sucking on a celery stick was aweful for me.
I was finally able to lose and maintain a 95# weight loss using Ma Huang. It took about 2 years to lose it and then maintained another 1 1/2. I got pregnant and stopped taking it. A month before I had my baby, the ephedra ban went into effect. In Illinois, it still is in effect. My little boy is now 2 1/2 and I've gained back 60# (30 of it during pregnancy). The bottom line is, I needed the help to lose the weight and look at it the same as taking high blood pressure medication or medication for diabetes. If there is something out there to help, why would you not try it.
Since having the baby, I tried every OTC product I could find, I tried several of the "good" hoodia products from the internet and was able to get Ephedrine over the the internet as well to do EGA stacks. Nothing worked. A few weeks ago I found Lipoxinol on the internet, researched it and have been using it for over a week and finally seems that I've found something that works for me.
Anyway, my bottom line answer to you is I never felt so physically and emotionally healthy as when I felt like a "normal person". Eating normal and looking normal and fitting into normal clothes. If I can get help doing that, then I'm gonna. |

I know how you feel. I get jealous when I see people like my older sister and people at my college who just dance around and wear whatever they want and they don't have to exercise or eat less or wear big frumpy clothes.
Personally, the only reason I wouldn't take pills or go on a diet it because I am scared. Obviously about what effect they could have, but more of the fact that I would finally be slim (for the first time in my life), only to stop dieting/taking the pills and return to being fat all over again.
I don't think I could handle that. |

Once I got to my goal weight, I continued taking the pill, but in a lower dosage, just to maintain. I took the pills for over 3 years with no problems at all. The only reason I stopped was because I got pregnant. Then the ban was made right before I had my baby so although I've tried many of the product out there now, nothing is working and I just keep going up, up, up |

Hey Everyone,
I take pills, but they are not the kind you are all taking, and they will never be banned. They are all herbal, and they give me great energy, and keep my body toned. I think taking weight loss pills could get dangerous, and am not a big fan of it. I drank 2 herbalife shakes a day for 3 months and lost 50 lbs. SO.. that's how I did it. I can help anyone else if they'd like to do the same, just email me: jennshultz@gmail.com
