Frustrated with weight loss, or rather lack of it!!! |

About 3 weeks ago I decided that enough was enough. I was the heaviest I have ever been in my life, and couldn't stand it anymore. I haven't even wanted to have sex, I feel so bad about how I look. Anyway, I decided to jump right in. I have two small kids (23 mos and 13 months) and found a gym that has two hours of day care available with a family membership for about $120 a month.
I immediately signed up for a spinning class (supposed to burn about 500 - 800 calories per class) and dove right in. I felt like I was going to die. When I was done, I seriously thought I was going to keel over and have a heart attack right there and then, but I went back to 4 more classes that week. One week later I had lost 4lbs.
Second week, did 4 more classes, and also added in 2 days of weight training, and cardio (starting out on the treadmill, I honestly couldn't do more than 1/2 a mile & that took me a good 14 minutes!!)... End of second week, down only 1lb...
(after all that....)
Third week, 4 more spinning classes, 2 days of weight training, and was able to do a mile on the treadmill (about 22 minutes), the end of my third week, I'd gained 3lbs... !!!!! (WTF???)
this is the start of my fourth week, and I'm a tad discouraged to say the least. So this is my schedule for this week:
Sunday - I did a spinning class, plus 1 hour weight training.
Monday - I did 45 minutes on the treadmill, did almost 2.5 miles
Today - I did a Spinning class
Wed - Spinning class
Thursday - Want to complete 1 hour of cardio on the treadmill, plus weight training for upper body - arms, shoulders, back, chest etc.,
Friday - 1 hour of cardio either treadmill or stationary bike
Saturday - off
So here's my questions - how much exercise are most people doing? Should I do something different?
Secondly, I went to sisterspharmacy.com today and ordered one month of phentermine (took this years ago, and lost about 15lbs) so willing to try it again, BUT, is there a better weightloss drug on the market?
Lastly, I eat like a fiend after I put my kids to bed at 8pm -- I probably take in most of my calories between 8 and midnight, while watching TV... Any suggestions on how to stop this?? I just don't seem to have the willpower (although I am trying to make it somewhat healthier choices - before it used to be a pint of ice cream and a HUGE bag of chips), now it's more like a yogurt and bare naked cereal mixed in, with maybe an apple, or a mango, tortilla chips, and homemade guacamole.... I can't stop... it's like I'm on auto pilot or something.. I hate it!!
Anyway sorry this is so long, and may or may not be in the right location!!

HI mdrugbymom,
I like your training routines, you mix cardio with weight training. Its to soon to be worried about not loosing weight. In 3 weeks you can not expect more. I am sure that if you keep it up your organism will start to react. Your metabolism will soon increase, I am sure about it, just give yourself some time...
"I eat like a fiend after I put my kids to bed at 8pm -- I probably take in most of my calories between 8 and midnight, while watching TV... ". All those calories will never be burned and will be transformed into fat cells. Late night eating is the worst thing you can do . Next time you go to the gym ask your trainer for some low calorie bars. Try eat them instead at night. They will keep you full.
Good luck and keep us posted. |
