Last year I had a car accident that left me with an injured knee. I've been through surgery and doctor's said in time it was going to be okay. Yet, I couldn't exercise four times a week like I used to and consequences were 25 extra lbs. Now my knee is better but I'm on the brink of depression because my former toned body looks like I was having burgers and fries all my life. I'm afraid I'll always have problems with the injured knee....

Hi Maureen,
After the operation you should follow a recovery treatment. This can only be recommended by a physician.

You can work out other muscular groups. Chest, biceps, triceps, dorsals, abs... just do not put pressure on your leg until its fully recovered.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Cycling isn't too hard on the knees... just don't ride hard. If you have a bike then I'd say ride for 30-60 minutes a day on your light gears... Ride at a comfortable pace. Your pace should be slow enough so that if you were to have a conversation while riding, you would be able to talk without being or becoming short of breathe... So your pace should be slow but not too slow...

Keep us posted and if you have a bike, let me know what sort of bike and if you know the gear ratios then post that as well...

It's a regular mountain bike and I guess there're 21 gear ratios or so. I'm not very sure, 'cause I'm not good with technical details. I'll try to strain myself gradually, just like you recommended. Thanks! Wink
