I know this was an older post, but had to rely anyway. As a trainer, I feel the best, most efficient & least costly home equipment would be Exercise bands or tubing. These can readily be purchased at your local sports equipment store, & are pretty inexpensive.
They are like huge rubberbands that have been cut so that it is one long line. They are available in various resistances, usually color-coded. some come with handles on each end, others do not. Both work equally well.
These bands are an alternative to free weights/handheld weights as well as large weightstack equipment. There is no need for tons of different weights, as each band's "weight can be adjusted simply by taking in or letting out some slack on the tension. (think of taking 2 different rubberbands of different thicknesses & stretching them...one is easier & one is harder...same principle!)
The major plus to these is that they are totally portable & take up virtually no space at all. Also, you can work every muscle in your body by using them...Most will come with a pamphlet of some great exercise ideas.
**ADDITIONALLY...I also really like a product called Resistaballs. These are giant "beachballs" that can be sat on, leaned on or balanced on, creating an even more challenging workout by giving you some instability causing you to focus on your balance & form. This is an extra perk you will never get with a strength training machine. These too can be purchased at any sports store. |
