I am starting Xenical....I currently am 5'6'' , 151 pounds with a BMI of 24. My doctor recommened me to use Xenical. My questions are... will this help me to lose the fat that is already stored in my body? What is the typical weight loss with the Xenical ? I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia a year ago , so my activity level has dropped rather fast. I guess I am just wondering if the Xenical really works. I put on 15 pounds in a year and that is the reason for my doctor recommending the Xenical. I have heard some horrible stories about it and was just wondering if someone could enlighten me . “Unlike other anti-obesity agents that work in the brain to suppress appetite, Xenical through its fat-blocking mode of action works non-systemically in the gastrointestinal tract, not requiring entry into the bloodstream or brain. Because Xenical partially blocks fat absorption, it has been shown to reduce the absorption of the fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E and K as well as beta-carotene. Therefore you are advised to take a daily supplement that contains fat soluble vitamins and beta-carotene.”

It appears to stop the absorption of fat and contribute to weight loss as the body will begin to use the stored fat/energy if non is being absorbed. However, I don’t think it is as effective as other drugs on the market which will specifically target stored fat.

Meridia is the other potential option, I believe it is cheaper and has much less problematic side effects, but this is more target at appetite suppression opposed to blocking the absorption of fat.

A possible combination of Xenical or Meridia and another drug could be very effective, however you would need to contact a doctor or someone with a bit more knowledge than me.
