This is completely understandable, as eating large amounts of animal protein will usually cause your cholesterol level to go up. Cholesterol is only found in 2 places: animal products & your liver. The human liver produces cholesterol on its own, & because of this, we really do not need any additional. The extra cholesterol we ingest tends to build up in the bloodstream & stick to the inner walls of our arteries creating a sticky mess called PLAQUE. If enough plaque builds up, the artery can become completely clogged, not allowing any blood to flow through. when no blood can flow through back to the heart, you have..yep...you guessed it...a heart attack.
The High Protein diets such as this one requires you to eat high quantities of animal products, as this is one of the best sources of protein without adding carbohydrates. ( Carbs are severly restricted during these diets).
Unfortunately, the type of food they are restricting contains one of the best ways to prevent arteries from clogging. FIBER! fiber is an amazing element, crucial for all people. Fiber helps to trap cholesterol, some fats, even toxins & flush them out of the body. Fiber is found in great abundance in whole grains & also can be found in some fruits & vegetables. In most cases, foods that contain fiber also contain carbohydrates....Therefore are restricted in these diets.
While weightloss is common in High Protein diets, There are many other negative health effects to come along with it. Do some research before starting one, & make sure it's something you really want to do. |
