15mg, 30mg (blue/yellow), 37.5mg |
|
|
I hear some talk about building up a tolerance to the 37.5 pills after they take them for a month or so. For this reason some say to start with a lower dose & work your way up. I have about 50 pounds to lose.
If you say 30mg, which one...blue or yellow? What's the difference?
Thanks guys!

Hi there -
I only have a quick second so I can't really go into great detail but...
there is debate about the whole tolerance thing. Large studies show that this is more of a psychological/behavioral phenomenon. (I mean, I think it is on a subconcious level, but it means we can kinda fight against it with little tricks rather than worry about the meds themselves.) The medicine itself still works the same. (I think it is wikipedia that has the results of that study - check it out. Very telling! Remember that health care workers definitely share the info that helps them steer you where they think you should go - and since they want you to take this short term....)
37.5 is not time released - so you get a big rush early - lasts MAINLY during the day.
30 mg are time released and so last 10-12 hours.
Some people like one, some like the other. I personally do much better with the time released.
Yellow or blue are different manufacturers of the generic. Again - I've seen posts from folks who swear by one or the other. Probably I've seen slightly more in favor of the yellows, but that may be because they are more available! It may also be that they really are better (generics can be legally a wee bit different, so there could be some truth to that.) I personally take the blues.
You can find out more about the specific meds, makers, imprints at http://www.pharmer.org/imprints/appetite-suppressants.
I love the resource at drugs.com for specifics on the pharmacology. That's where I learned that the 37.5 mg actually states that the biological load is equal to the 30 mg dose, so it isn't exactly STRONGER, per se, it's just different.
So - that probably doesn't steer you in one way or the other, but I do think information is power! =)
Gotta get to camp! Good luck. |

Peds Nurse:
Thanks SO much for all that information! I did a search before I posted this question & saw that several people asked the question, but didn't really get an answer. I also see that many taking the white pill with blue specs (37.5) broke it in half when they began and when they felt that they were developing a tolerance for it.
I actually searched Wikipedia, but just read the history of the drug. I will also check out the link you gave & drugs.com as well.
I was considering the 37.5 because I could break it in half. I was also considering the 30mg because it was time released & I figured I could "upgrade" to the 37.5 when my tolerance changed. But thanks for telling me that they have the SAME biological load.
I think I will go with the time released one.
I now have officially had my phen consult!
Once again I appreciate your help!

Also, if some are taking 2 pills a day how does your 30-day supply last 30 days?
ETA: not splitting the pills in half but taking 2 pills per day. |

a way around tolerance |
|
|
| The body does develop a tolerance to phentermine rather quickly. The way I get around this is to not take it every day. If you can get to your goal weight or near it and the phen stops working for you, you can take it only 2-3 times per week and it will work well on the days you take it after you give your body a break. I started taking it about 2 1/2 years ago and I took it about 5 days a week for the first couple of months, then I went to 3 days per week and then weekends only. I lost about 15 pounds initially and kept it off doing this. Plus, a bottle of 90 lasts about a year this way. I ran out of phen about 2 mos ago, and haven't gotten any more due to the trouble finding it. I have gained about 7 pounds since I stopped my weekend dosages. I finally found a site I hope will work out, and I am expecting my order Monday. I hope it comes! |

Thanks mispris!
So are you suggesting that I initially only take it during the week at first? I start on Monday.
How much weight did you have to lose & what was your diet/physical activity like when you lost the initial 15 pounds? |

| esquire-i don't think it's neccessary to take 2 pills a day, esp. if they are the time released ones. they last up to 12 hours. plus for some it might not be safe and healthy. |

Esquire-
I suggest taking it 5 days a week with 2 days off at first. This will help keep you from building a tolerance so quickly. If it starts not working for you, then cut back to every other day or to the days when you are most likely to over eat. This is the weekend for me. I only had about 15 pounds to lose when I started. I didn't exercise at all and I lost weight and maintained it. You lose more weight from diet than from exercise. Not to say exercise doesn't help, but I have never found it to be a great weight loss tool. Diet is definitely more important when losing weight. It helps tremendously when you are less hungry! Good luck to you! |

Kenna, I take my 37.5's every other day and it works well for me. Not only day you save money-since you arent having to buy as frequently- but on the days that I dont take it, Im not really any more hungry then the day before when I had actually taken it because my body/stomach is kind of used to eating less. But Ive been on Phen for about 2 months so this probably wouldnt work as well for someone who just started it, hope that helps |
