I thought ephedra was banned...is it now only available trough a doctor prescription? Or were would you get it?

I looked it up and apparently it's banned everywhere now.

My question is this:

If Ephedra is unsafe, then how come people on these forums keep requesting it?

If Ephedra is not unsafe, then why is it banned?!

From what I've read, Meridia has caused way more deaths than Ephedra and Meridia is still being prescribed by doctors. So now I'm confused. Someone please help me and correct me if I have not looked into it enough. Thank you.
