How do I get rid these masculine arms? |

Please tell me how to slim down my big muscular arms. I'm female, 140 lbs, and I hate these Serena Williams looking arms. There's no definition (not cut) because I have a couple of inches of flab; and I don't want the defined cut look. I want the slender feminine-looking arms I had a few yrs ago.
I know losing weight will help the flab, but I need to lose the bulk and the muscle is too big. I know muscle is good for this that and the other, but I don't want the big muscles there. I want slender, feminine arms, without definition; and without bulk. HOW CAN I GET RID OF THESE MANLY ARMS....I LOOK LIKE FOOTBALL PLAYER FROM BEHIND!! I'm too embarrassed to go sleevless.
I do a few dips. I'm afraid weights will bulk me up even more. I tried them in the past & I looked like Baby Swartzeneggar (sp). Do I first need to lose a lot of weight first? PLEASE HELP...THANKS IN ADVANCE. |

I kinda had this problem when I was pregnant with my son. I had somewhat larger arms.
What I did was do low weight, high rep arm curls, tricep push outs and shoulder exercises. All with very low weight and high reps. Worked for me. |

Body Fat reduction should always be the primary aim, the weight loss will follow.
You say you have muscular arms and then say you have a couple of inches of flab. Flab is not muscle and therefore not muscular. My Mum who is 70 has lots of flab on her arms & I tell her she needs to increase the muscle with resistance exercise(i.e. weights).
NOW, as a woman you will only get big and muscular IF you either have 1) Abnormally high levels of testosterone, or 2) Take steroids. Female bodybuilders who get big, muscular & male like take steroids which mimic testosterone (which is the muscle building hormone). Men build muscle a lot easier because they have much higher levels of testosterone.
Check this video from Steve Turano:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bMGVHZOIcLY
The same weight training exercise that men do to build muscle normally builds a slim, slender figure in women.
The next thing is, are you really muscular or is this YOUR perception of yourself. Ask other people, in particular people who are knowledgeable of exercise, as what you see as a baby schwarzenegger may be different to someone else. I've known women who get big muscular arms from playing squash, or at least that's their perception, although I could not see it as such.
Generally to lose weight effectively one needs to consume less calories than they burn. Eat a good diet, no junk foods, high in fat and no cola's/soda's etc, which are the drink equivalent of junk food.
Exercise, consisting of:
1) Cardio, remember with exercise that you only start to burn fat after about 20 mins of exercise, when you have depleted your glycogen stores, so if you are doing cardio alone you need to do at least twice that time.
2) Resistance or weights, as the above video says...you need to train hard AND...if your doing cardio & weights in the same workout do your weights FIRST, that way when you start your cardio you will be fat burning straight away.
Hope this helps

| Perhaps you can try lifting weights so tone your arms, do some bicep/tricep curls. It works, just have the patience to do it regularly. Here's a link of some exercises you can do. abc-of-fitness.com/info/fitness-exercises.asp |

re how to get rif of flabby arms |

You Dont want to do heavy weights if you feel your arms already have to much muscle. Dont listen to the people that tell you heavy weights will make you look more like a woman and a man more like a man. That is NOT ture. I worked with a trainner that told me the same thing and all he did was build muscle on my arms and make them bigger. Therefore I know what Im talking about.
First you need to work on doing lots of cardio, at least 30 to 45 min , at least three days a week. This will burn fat and muscle. I would do this for about a month, maybe two. Then start doing light weights, and more reps. I am doing five lbs and about 15 reps three times each arm. This is helping me alot.
It cost me alot of money to learn a lesson that not every trainner knows what they are doing when it comes to a women wanting to tone her body. You just have to find what works for you because every body is different, but the carido is the place to start to burn the fat and the muscle off your arms.

I think toned and shapely arms are very sexy on women. I agree that huge arms don't look good. I love how Madonna's arms got when she was working out. They were slim, but they had a lot of shape. I just cant stand the super skinny arms that have no shape.
Cardio and diet is going to get you to where you want to be. You can still lift weights, but just keep the weight low and the reps high.

I absolutely agree. I actually came in here looking for the said same resolution to that problem. Now although, some women like defined muscular arms, not all do. SOme women (such as myself) prefer long untoned slender arms. I had explained this to my trainer and he totally disregarded what I asked him. Rather, he constantly stated how "great" women look with a little definition in their arms as if it was his choice to decide.
Needless to say he had me lifting weights and doing, what was clearly inappropriate for my body type and my weightloss request. Instead, I gained 8 pounds, my clothes became tighter. I went from starting the gym at 138 to leaving at 146. I still hate my arms which grew in muscle mass.
In the end I would say, your body is your body and how you want it to look is a preference and Right of yours, not your trainer or anyone else, whether you want a muscular look OR a slim, undefined body, OR a heavier set body. Thanks |
