meridia for diabetes |

| Is anyone here a diabetic and taking meridia? Has it lowered your blood sugar levels? The FDA is considering approving meridia for diabetics. |

Diabetics on Meridia |
Hi - I'm diabetic and just started my second session with Meridia. I'm not insulin dependant, I used Avandia and more recently went on Metformin and then added Altos (which didn't work).
My first session with Meridia (about 5 yr. ago) I lost 35 lb. in 3 months and felt great. After I stopped the weight gradually crept back on, but I'm going to lose a bunch this time! |

| thanks for posting. i began on insulin two and a half weeks ago and have gained 9 lbs. I am going to ask about Meridia when I see the Diabetic Educator. I dont know if my dr will allow for me to be on it though, as I am now having a problem with my liver...fatty liver disease it looks like. Go figure. Also....I was looking at my lab reports and noticed that my thyroid level had gone up back in August and it had slipped by him. I mentioned this to him and he just said that he would retest it again next month. No wonder I have gained 20 lbs since Sept. |

Meridia and Diabetes |
| I am a type 2 diabetic, diagnosed 5 years ago. Seems like all the meds you have to take cause you to gain weight (insulin, amaryl, etc, etc). My endocrynologist gave me a prescription for Meridia over 1 year ago. I am no longer on Lantus, Amaryl or Avandia, as I have lost 80 pounds. If you can start losing weight and can go off some of the meds, the weight loss even comes faster as many of the meds only add to the weight problem. If you are going to a general practitioner, I would recommend an endocrynologist. |

| Hi and thanks for your reply. I doctor thru the VA system and I dont even know if the hospital that I go to even has an endocrine doc there. I see my gen med dr on Wednesday. I have lost a few pounds on my own but If I want to eat anything I have to inject. After being pretty good for a few weeks I fell off the wagon this weekend. I just hate it. Black coffee raises my blood sugar. Yes, I figure that if I can lose some weight I could go back to oral meds. I will ask my dr about Meridia on Wed. The VA has it, I have looked it up but they have a bunch of rules one has to follow in order to get it. I meet the criteria as far as my BMI goes. I just want to stop wanting to eat all of the time. I am home all day and going 4 hours not eating between meals it hard. |
