What am I doing wrong? |
|
|
| Hi to all! I am a 20-year-old female, 5'8", and currently weigh about 135. My goal is 125, but I'm allowing myself a few months to get it done. I eat about 1200 calories per day and try to work off at least 300 per day at the gym. I also go to a large university, which allows me a great deal of walking from class to class. I eat healthy foods throughout the day, but somehow I still can't seem to lose weight. What could I possibly be doing wrong? |

| 1200 calories may be less then you need. How did you get this value? Does a dietitian recommended you to go an 1200 calories per day? |

| I've always read that 1200 was the lowest you could go per day without sending your body into starvation mode. Maybe I should be eating more... that would be awesome, haha! |

I see 2 possibilities here:
1. Something may be wrong in your metabolism, possibly your body may be in "starvation mode" due to your 1200 calories diet
2. Sour calorie intake may be bigger then 1200. Your intake calculation is not right and you are burning less. |

If what you are eating is mostly carbs, that could be part of the problem. Be sure you are getting enough protein.
Also - when are you eating? If you eat only 1 or two times a day your body hangs onto the fat. Try eating 6 to 8 times a day. Even if it's just a piece of fruit or a carton of yogurt you'll be keeping your body going.
Going below 1200 calories can be dangerous -if you are exercising that much, it's not about calories but about what and when you are eating. |

| In my experience, the best way to lose that last ten is to eat lean protein and veggies, and no carbs. I know they say its all about calories, but a low cal and high carb diet never works for me. I can eat twice as many calories on a high protein diet and I'll lose twice as much weight. The only problem with low carbs is that it is almost impossible to maintain. Instead of being drastic about it, I try to make small permanent changes to my diet. For example, I've traded my sandwich at luch for a salad with grilled chicken. It's also possible that you've just hit a plateu. Change up your routine and keep your body challenged. Good Luck! |

Feed yourself, don't starve |
|

Lucky:
I found a lot of useful hints at nojokediet.com and talked with my doctor. I know this won't work for everyone but I really think these hints did me wonders.
I would ensure you are feeding your body all it needs. Workout more, but eat more too! Just remind yourself to eat the right foods -- for it is now all about natural food, especially fruits and veggies.
Look forward to hearing your progress.
