Go to the gym, gain weight |
|

Hello all, I’m so glad I found this forum. I hope someone can help me with my weight loss problem. I’m female, 34 yrs. old, 5’8, 186 lbs.
I’ve been going to the gym for 1 ½ now. Before that I walk about 2 miles/day. Now I spend about 2 hrs at the gym 1 hr yoga / pilates, ½ hr cardio, and ½ hr weight training. I’m trying to watch what I eat. My typical meal is raisin bran for breakfast, cob salad for lunch with vinaigrette dressing, small all fruit smoothies for snack, and protein and carbs for dinner. I also use Alli and Topomax, plus all my vitamins.
The crazy thing is, instead of loosing weight; I’ve been gaining weight. I gained about 3lbs within this last week.
I need to wean myself off of the Topomax, but I’m afraid that I’ll gain even more. I just bought Cylaris today hoping that it will help. However, I’m thinking that with the amount of exercise that I’m doing alone I should be able to drop at least a couple of lbs.
Help me here guys, what am I doing wrong?
Thanks |

Hey I read your post and I have exactly the same problem. But my question to you is, are you on any kind of birth control?? I am on depo provera and I just went to my doctor this morning and she told me that is the problem. Not only does it make you gain weight, it makes you unable to lose any weight no matter how hard you try! I work out 5-6 days a week weight training and cardio and then I play indoor soccer and go hiking on weekends with no change in weight. I am definitley getting myself off that shot and hopefully my body will return to normal. I don't know if this is what is affecting you but I thought it was worth a try. |

Hi RLiz,
Thanks for the reply. No, I'm not taking any birth control. I used to take Topomax, but I'm not doing that anymore since it doesn't do anything for me in terms of weightloss. I spoke to a nutritionist at the gym, and she told me that I should eat more fiber. I'll try that, but I'm a bit skeptical. |

uwaybie,
Hi! Have you figured out how many calories a day you are burning? Off the cuff, without knowing too much about your lifestyle and eating habits it sounds like your body may be hoarding calories... you may have too large of a deficit. I would also try to spread my meals out across six smaller meals (i know it's a hassle, but it works). A quick estimate of caloric intake is to multiply BW by 10 (I weight 135 x 10 = 1350 so I try to keep my meals under 225... it's an art not a science) Please keep in mind that these are rough estimates to work from you can find much more in-depth calorie calculators in a quick google search!
