hypothyroidism |
|

This is my first post & I've been encouraged by all the comments. Has anyone had successful weight loss while suffering from hypothyroidism? I was diagnosed about 4 years ago, when a lump was discovered by my doctor. At the time it was benign, but when the lump got larger, my endocrinologist decided it was time to remove the lump, including my thyroid. Turned out the lump was cancerous, and I had to have some radioactive treatments. I also take synthroid. My doctor told me that of all his patients, only 3 have lost weight. Very discouraging!
I was steadily gaining about 20 lbs a year and have leveled off at about 220 lbs, and to be honest, am totally miserable. I really try to eat healthy and excercise moderately. I'm 48 years old & female. I'm really considering having lap-band surgery, but hate to go that route.
Is there anyone else with this problem? Other than the hypothyroidism and weight gain, I'm in excellent health. |

Dear Light,
Thank you for the quick response! I've read many of your posts, and it's obvious that you are very caring and empathetic. That's encouraging in itself. |

Lean Balance and Hypothyroid |
|
|
Hey!
I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's over a year ago, and my doc barely got my meds to a point that I feel normal again, BUT unfortunately I gained about 40 lbs in the process (40 lbs I had lost while doing Jenny Craig prior to being diagnosed)
Anyway, since I am taking Synthroid for my Hypothyroid I have to be careful what kind of diet aid supplement I can take... most everything throws me off whack... nervous, hyper, disconnected feeling, but I started taking Lean Balance as a last try to see if I can get rid of the extra weight.
This is my first day, and so far I feel fine... and I am NOT CRAVING foods...then again this is too soon to tell so I will give you guys an update in a couple of weeks.... I REALLY WANT TO LOSE THIS WEIGHT!! I don't like it... it feels very uncomfortable... I am 5' and weigh 162lbs.... that's way to much for me.
Wish me luck! |

i could go on andd on for hours on this topic. i was diagnosed hyperthyroid when was 14yrs. i had a radioactive treatment that year and have since been hypo-. here are some of the things i have learned over the last 12 years...
-have a routine. go to bed the same time, get up the same time. of couse this isn't set in stone and there will be nights you get more or less sleep but try to be consistent.
-generic drugs are not as good as synthroid.
-take your pill as soon as you get up, then wait 1 hour to eat. make sure to have breakfast.
-tell your doctor when you feel like a slug. you know better than anyone what is wrong with you. so pay attention to how you are doing- do you have enough energy? can you think straight? if things aren't right, your dose is off. no matter if the bloodwork comes back as "in the normal range". speak up for yourself and get feeling "right".
you can lose weight. it is possible. ask me any questions you can think of, i'll tell you the truth from my prospective.

Iodine?? |
|
|
I have recently read a lot about iodine and hypothyroidism.
Teresa Tapp - founder of T-Tapp is a genius when it comes to biochemistry and exercise for those with ailments...anything from a bad back to lymphoma.
You might want to read a bit about using it and consult your doctor to see if it would be acceptable given your medication. He may say "don't waste your money" since Western docs tend to turn up their noses at anything holistic but as long as it's not contraindicated it's worth a shot....it only costs about $13 a bottle. |
