Flax Seed Could Be Harming Your Health |

Hey guys,
I just got back from my friends house after we worked out at the gym. She was making us both some protein shakes and I noticed she was scooping out some ground up flax seed and putting that into a shake.
OK, so let's talk about this for aminute. As we all know, it's typically a really good thing to supplement your diet with. But what people are finding is that a lot of the flax seed oil they buy comes rancid.
You can tell if the oil is rancid by tasting it -- if it has a bitter taste to it, throw it out.
I switched from flax seed oil (which has to be refrigerated) to using whole flax seeds. I have a big tub of it and I sprinkle a full tablespoon onto my salads and it adds a really nice nutty flavor.
I also throw a tablespoon into any protein shakes I make and blend it all in there. Yeah, you have to almost chew the last few gulps because the flaxseeds collect at the bottom, but they taste good.
Another important thing to consider is that you should buy whole flax sees and not ground up flax seeds. The seed casing protects the oil inside and keeps it from going rancid. As soon as you grind the seeds, the oil is exposed to the air and it can quickly oxidize. When that happens and you eat rancid or oxidized flax seed, you then have a lot of free radicals in your body, and this is not good. You have to take some heavy anti-oxidants to get rid of them.
So to avoid this, just buy fresh, whole flax seeds.
Hope this helps.
