I've been slowly changing my eating habits for ten years, and I'm at a point where I feel like I am doing everything right and still am not in a healthy place in terms of body fat percentage. I talked to my gym's manager who is a woman into body building. She recommended an hour of cardio and Lipodrene. She gave me a sample and I tried it with no adverse affects. She also mentioned something about retaining water, which bothered me a bit.

I am looking to reduce total body fat and maintain my lean body mass (i am well-muscled) . . . is taking ephedra going to do that? This isn't about using diuretics to appear thinner - I want to actually be thinner, and I want to be able to maintain it.

Possible? Success stories?

I'm not sure what your trainer was talking about in terms of retaining water.

Ephedrine is a thermogenic and will increase your body temperature so that you burn more calories doing whatever it is you do. By that mechanism, if you don't eat more, you'll lose weight. If you do things right, that weight loss will be fat and not lean muscle tissue, and thus you will get that leaner look.

There are some really novel ingredients coming to the market in about 3 months that are going to shake things up. Ephedrine, Alli, phen phen, and all that stuff is going to be poo compared to what I have read is just around the corner.

Ephedra's maybe very effective to help to reduce weight. But, please take a note that ephedra has also the most side effects. Consulting to your doctor might be really good.
Here is the link proving that

Its a dangerous way to go about it which may lead to heart attack.  Most thermogenics are pretty barbaric.  Ephedra has a long tradition of use in China as well as modern pharmacology.  It is a mistake for weight loss.

get Shen Ling Bai Zhu and strengthn the digestive system.   Here is an exercise for weight loss via efficient digestion.
