HELP!!! HYPOTHYROID DISEASE |
|
|
| OK, first off, I have Hypothyroid Disease, and my sad story is... I am normally about 135-145 pounds, which is really nice. Then about 1 1/2 ago, i had gained about 20 pounds because my medication was too low. My doctors decided to raise it, and I lost about 35 pounds in 2 months, which was GREAT because I wasnt hungry, therefore I hardly ate, therefore I lost a great deal of weight, quickly. The downfall you might ask... my moods and emotions were SO unpredictable that I driving everyone around me crazy. So again they checked my blood work, and decided to lower my perscription. Since then, I have moved to a completely different state, moved in with my boyfriend (something I have NEVER done before), started REALLY working for the first time, had a terrible loss in my family, started school again, and had fallen into DEEP depression, which was also caused because again, my perscription was too low. So about 2 months ago they changed my perscription dose, yet again. But since then I have GAINED 50 pounds!!!! I know, terrible right?? So now, my blood work is ok, and I eat relatively healthy, and I do my best to exercise, but I can not get rid of this disgusting weight. Ugh, I feel soo disgusting... it's brutal. I hate it. So I thought maybe I could get my foot in the door by taking some kind of supplement to boost my thyroid and metabolism into gear... but I dont want to take a chance of screwing my body up again by taking something that is going to interfere with my thyroid condition. If someone has taken some kind of supplement that has worked and not interfered with their thyroid condition, I would really appreciate some input/advice from you. |

Hi - I read your post. I went through a lot of problems with my dosages going up and down, changing drug types, gaining weight. I finally decided to see an endocrinologist. His advice was eat less, excercise. He was right, but it was a huge committment. He told me not to get in to the fad diets, my body would react differently than most people. Don't complicate it, just be mindful of your calories. I didn't pay attention to carbs or fat, I ate what I wanted - so long as it was 1500 calories/day (I am 5'8"). So, if I wanted some chocolate I had a salad for dinner. It was all about the trade-offs. On top of the calories I excercised almost every day of the week. I started out in a gym with weights and treadmills, but I hated it. So I got on my bike and that was a little better. I did a little digging and found out that rollerblading burns more calories than running. So I got out my rollerblades and pushed myself - 45 to 60 minutes five or six days each week. After a few months of solid committment to this I lost over 45 pounds. Then, I went for a regular blood test and had to have my dose lowered. I was diagnosed when I was 4 years old and I learned I never knew this- the more you weigh the higher the dose you'll need. So as you lose weight you can expect that your dose will be lowered, but don't worry. Keep to your routine and the dosage won't hurt you.
Good luck!

Thanks for the reply. How long exactly did it take you to lose 45lbs? Because as I said, I have never been this overweight in my life and it would help keep me motivated if I heard some of your secrets. LOL. I really appreciate your reply, it helps that the "success story" is someone whose background is similar to mine. Thanks so much! |
