Recall: Actavis brand Phentermine (A159's)

Kerls — One of my friends went to Wal-mart last night to get her prescription refilled and when they gave her phen manufactured by Qualitest, she asked if she could have the ones manufactured by Actavis.

The pharmacist told her that they couldn't because there is a recall on phentermine manufactured by Actavis. At first, I thought Wal-mart was BSing her but she called CVS to find out if they carried Actavis brand phentermine and they said the same thing.

Has anyone heard about this or read about this somewhere? I have been scouring the internet to substantiate what Wal-mart and CVS were saying about the recall but have been able to find absolutely nothing. I am inclined to believe that this is true considering she got the same answer from two entirely different pharmacies, but hey, you never know.

sanderson92 — It isn't on the FDA site as being recalled, and they have one listed as recent as today.

Kerls — I saw that. The only recall notice they have for Actavis is for Digitek which is used for treating heart failure. Nothing about phentermine. The only references to phentermine was when the FDA banned fenfluramine/phentermine combo and that's dated in the late 90's.

animal-lover — Maybe that's why Maria w/ yguymin said A159's are no longer available.

baglady — Forgive me if this was already covered but have you contacted the manufacturers of that brand? If it were a voluntary recall they might have the info on a website or have a phone # you can call.

If that turns up nothing, I'd go back to the pharmacists and ask for their sources of their information. They could be unknowingly passing bad information. OR knowingly, whatever.

PharmDude — Actavis released a nationwide recall of virtually all of their medications in accordance with an agreement with the FDA. The RPh's you talked to are correct, it is no longer available.

The last time such a sweeping recall occured, the company invovled was forced to dissolve. Stumbled upon this and thought I would share it with you.

Yep...

The above is correct.

I started looking around on the net and found this link.
I will try to post this link for you to look at which lists all the drugs involved. The phentermine 37.5mg is on the list.

Yes I liked them better. I had been on A159 for so long, I thought they seemed stronger. Everyone is different.
I personally requested them after I had received them from walmart, when used dr.branch.

Straitford — I thought that A-159 was made by Amide.
