I just need to know any info anyone has about drinking alcohol and how much does it really affect you when you are working out most days.
Thanx |

A bit of experience with this. |

Hi Bill,
My brother drinks a lot of low carb content beer (less than 12 carbs per bottle) and he gets up every morning and spends 30 minutes on a cardo machine. He is keeping his weight off. He's sort of on an Atkins diet and doesn't eat bread, pasta, sugar or potatoes. He's 6" and weights 178 pounds. He gains weight easily, like the rest of the family.
For me, if I drink 1 vodka and low carb tonic, I'm fine. I still go to the gym 2 hours a day. If I drink more than two glasses of wine, I am so sluggish it's super hard to get to the gym. One of the trainers goes to the gym no matter how much she's had to drink.
I think you can drink low carb content stuff and it won't slow you down.
We are all in our mid thirties.
I hope that helps. |

The best thing to drink is rum and diet coke or gin and tonic.
I've decided to quit drinking for a couple months until I am on the right track. I get very hungry when I drink and make bad choices.
But when I was in shape, I used to drink and still workout the next day. But it was very hard! |

| When you drink alcohol it switches your metabolism to burning straight alcohol (the byproducts of this cause hangovers) Alcohol has 7 calories per gram compaired to 4 for carbs and protien, and 9 for fat. Another consideration is what kind of drinks your having (added sugar and fat). But if you consider this into your daily calories its like having chocolate cake and eating less healthy stuff, you can lose weight, its just not the best option. |

Hi all!
I love to drink!!
Here is a great synopsis of the studies that have been done. It just explains what Luckysmile is saying....LUCKYSMILE you know your research!!
http://www.hhp.ufl.edu/faculty/pbird/keepingfit/ARTICLE/wtgain.HTM
Conclusion for me...a gin and tonic here adn there are A-ok.
BUT - my recent research into Perricone and inflammation theories on weight loss....has made me wonder if there is an inflammatory effect of alcohol. BCZ....my rings fit snuggly after I have an evening of partying. I can also just DROP that pudgy tummy right off when I stop drinking for awhile. (So was it Inflammation or fat?)
Something to think about...

| Thanks Christine, I try to make sure when I post that I know what I'm talking about, or make it clear that I'm not sure.I have been thinking about going to school to become a trainer after I get in shape because so many people are misinformed about so many topics on fitness and nutrition. When me and my mom took a fitness and nutrition class even the trainers didn't agree on some of the stuff and you could really tell that they were influencing the information with thier own personal preferances. |
