I have heard mixed results about the positive and negative effects of ephedrine/ephedra.

The scientific facts only point to positive results.  You seem to be a bit confused about the difference between ephedra and ephedrine.  Ephedra, Ma Huang and Sida Cordifolia is the herb and Ephedrine is the active ingredient.  Only fake Ephedra without the Ephedrine Alkaloids will not work.  You only hear negative results from the fakes.
