Well..I think it's finally time I get something done! I'm 28, 6'3 and weight 430lbs!!!! I've tried many things pills to nutrisystem. Some have had minimal success. Others have not. I'm now determined and ready to buckle down and lose this weight! Probably is..I'm naive when it comes to nutrition. I will admit that. I've always been a big guy. And it doesn't help that I'm a picky eater. Buying a treadmill to do some exercising at home within the next couple of weeks. Open to ideas..just looking for some advice. Maybe an example of a daily 'eating' schedule or something? How many calories should I eat a day? Any kind of pills that might help as well? Any information is much appreciated. Looks like a great place to get help!

I will suggest you to loose weight by natural means rather than by loosing it from artificial manner by the use of pills and all. I sometimes feel that there may be some kinda risk involved in it and may cause any side effects. Better it is to exercise and loose weight, take a balanced diet that supports weight loss.

Pls, pls buy that tread mill you really do not want to rely on pills as the way forward. In the long run they probably do not work for the vast majority of people.
Ur tread mill is the sure route to loosing weight.
Go 4 it!

Pills can be useful if taken correctly.  But, they are just another tool, not the end all be all answer, to your success.  I would recommend seeing a nutritionist or your family doctor.  They will have some great suggestions for you!  I prefer an elliptical machine vs. a treadmill.  I got really bored with the treadmill, quick!  The elliptical come with more options.  I guess it would depend on what treadmill you are buying.  Good Luck!  And pls keep us posted on your progress!

breathoflife,

I'm a personal trainer in Michigan, and the following is what I tell all of my clients when they ask me about their diet.  Well, let's be honest... I tell them even if they don't ask me.

You can definitely lose every pound you're hoping to lose.  However, the best way to begin is to educate yourself.  Clearly you want to do that because you posted a question here. So good for you for taking the initiative.

Start by buying the following books used on Amazon.com

"Syndrome X"  Jack Challem (Author), Burton Berkson
"Good Calories Bad Calories" Gary Taubes
"On Target Nutrition" Chris Johnson
"Paleolithic Diet" Loren Cordain

Read those cover to cover and you'll know more, high quality information about what to eat than 95% of people.

To sum them up though here's the advice I would give you.

Most people approach weight loss with two primary myths in their minds.

First, most of my clients think that if they simply eat fewer calories than they burn, they'll lose weight.  While this isn't totally incorrect, this mode of thinking generally yields substandard result for most people. At best they plateau before their goal is reached.

Food quality is of UTMOST importance.  You can eat a negative calorie diet of donuts and ice cream and still not lose weight.  Similarly, you could eat an excess caloric intake of spinach, romaine, and apples and not gain a pound.

Monkeys, cheetahs and squirrels don't count calories.  They eat when they're hungry and they don't eat when they're not.  Ever seen a fat Monkey?  (maybe in the zoo).

The second biggest source of confusion for people is their understanding of WHY they gain weight in the first place.

Your hormonal system is largely responsible for how your body uses food.  Over thousands of years of evolution (or by your divine creation, depending on your beliefs) your hormones are designed to process what you eat perfectly without adding weight or degrading your health.  However, your hormones don't know what to do with simple carbohydrates, sugars and highly processed food.  The result is that you gain weight.

This post is getting long so I'll give you a few really simple rules to follow to help you on your way.

1. Make 95% of what you eat Vegetables, Fruit, Nuts, Seeds, Healthy oils for fat, and Lean Meat.
2.  No bread, no pasta, no oatmeal, no sugar, no processed food.  If it didn't grow on a tree or die, you can't have it.  (you could eat soy products instead of meat, I've been doing it for years)
3. Eat when you're hungry, and eat as much of the foods above as you like.  But try and make sure you only deviate one meal a week or so.  No more.
4.  Learn to slowly cultivate discipline.  This will take time.  You can do it, be patient with yourself.  Start with breakfast, most people find that easiest.

Common problems eating naturally:

If you're energy level drops (rare), up your fat intake with avocados, nuts, and ext. virgin olive oil.

if you can't swing the diet, try just doing it a little at a time.  The goal being 90% adherence, eventually.

Hope that helps, good luck.  READ READ READ.  If you have any questions PM me.

Thanks all for the help.  Scratch the treadmill idea!  I can't find one that has a weigh limit of over 350 lbs.  So I guess I'm going to have to figure something else out there.  Would really like some kind of home equipment.  Any ideas?
