Hello everyone! I'm new here and was just wondering something.
I started a diet about a week ago and have lost a pound every single day since I started. I know that to lose a pound of fat you have to burn 3500 calories, and I know that there is no possible way I am doing that every day. I'm a little concerned about where this weight is coming from.
Here are my stats and what im eating.
Male
5'10''
was 200 pounds, now 192 pounds.
before i was eating unhealthy fattening meals twice a day with plenty of beer every night,
I replaced it with:
500 calorie egg sandwitch on wheat bread and 1 grapefruit for breakfast
sandwitch or soup or frozen weight watcher meals for lunch with salad or yogurt and fruit
dinner usually consists of sashimi on top of a salad since im a sushi chef
and im drinking nothing but water. I am trying to eat about 1600-1800 calories a day. compared to my 2500-3000 before. I know im going to get results, but does anyone know where this weight loss is coming from? Not muscle I hope?

It is possible. Way to go. Here is a little info that I know just from being a Med assistant: Beer is full of calories, beer is also metabolized in the body as glucose, glucose is sugars. Fried food has enormous amount of Carbs which, tend to get stored in the body and carbs burn off first then calories. Water, filters the kidney's which in turn takes out the sugars, and other crap that normally would be eaten. The water helps keep your colon and other areas of the body clean and filtered.
You also may loose weight rather quickly the first couple weeks and then it will level off. Alot of that weight that you lost could be water weight.
You are obviously doing something right. One last thing, if you are working out, do it on an empty stomach reason being that you will burn calories not carbs. Also, if you eat a meal with in a half hour after your workout, you will burn calories from it since you body is metabolizing quickly after workout.

I think Beer is the root cause of overweight. That's made the difference. You can reduce much more weight if just leave Egg or egg related foods.
I noticed when I was on the Atkins Diet I would fluctuate ten to twelve pounds (water weight - water retention). If I stayed faithful to the diet I would lose the water and then real weight - I lost over 50 pounds on Atkins. But, when I drove down to Italy for a long weekend and pig out of pasta, I would gain ten to twelve pounds over that weekend. It was all water weight. Two weeks later it was gone again.
For every gram of sugar your body store as muscle glycogen it stores 3 grams of water. When you go on a very low carb diet your glycogen stores diminish taking all that water with it. This is particularly true for the first few weeks on said diet. After a while your body will get better at converting protein and fat into glycogen henceforth the great weight loss.
For those on an ultra low carb diet, to prevent muscle loss you have to eat high amounts of protein and fat. Resistance training is also important. Be aware you will also always be in a slightly dehydrated state. When you do consume carbs particularly starches you will see a fast increase in weight, this weight is due to the increased water storage and is not fat gain.

Keep yourself away from beer as it increases the fattiness and makes you fatty. It is good to know that you are loosing quite a good amount of fat. I will suggest you to exercise a lot and make yourself fit and slimmer.
How is the weight loss coming? Thank you, to all of you for the advice. I"ve lost 40 lbs, but have not lost anymore and my work out routine has gotten boring. I have been considering adding free weights but have no idea where to start. Really enjoyed reading all the suggestions! I"ve also read that one can burn muscle instead of fat if one is not eating correctly...how would I determine this? Any ideas?
First of all being fat or overweight means you are sick you have an illness a disease, we don't become overweight by choice like we don't get cancer by choice , anyone who has extra weight on should not blame himself for being that way because if you had the flu it will not be you fault either. We have to stop blaming ourselves and try to cure ourselves from this sickness like we do when we get sick. The trick here is to do it once and for all, find a cure for us that will help us lose weight and keep it of.

Be happy with who you are it is not your fault if your are sick.
