Did anyone see the Dr. Oz show today about the mom meth addict? I read that your body treats phen like meth and now I'm worried. I don't want to look like those meth addicts, I just want to lose the weight! Phen doesn't cause your teeth to fall out and all that other nasty stuff, right?

I don't think so, but with all diet pills and pain killer meds you must use with caution and don't become a addict b/c you can with any drug med. Just be responsible and don't let phen make you an addict just take some time off the phen then get back on, so you give your body a rest. I hope that will help you. and always GOOD LUCK FRIEND ON YOUR JOURNEY.
I am new to this site, but wanted to reply to frightened. Dr. Oz is a cardiovascular surgeon (does open heart surg) & I am a nurse that works with these patients & these types of surgeons. It is the acidity of meth when smoked that ruins your teeth along with poor nutrition & oral care. It is something that we see pretty often because infection that gets into the body from the mouth can RUIN your heart valves & they need surgery to have them replaced. Phen does not do the obvious mouth/teeth damage, but it will cause dry mouth with can hurt your teeth without you paying attention to good mouth hygiene. To be honest, phen does have some of the cardiovascular effects as meth--elevated heart rate, b/p, cortisol levels (stress hormone), irritability, etc. I have taken phen for years off & on and still have all my teeth, normal b/p, no heart trouble...Like was stated, you just have to be careful, don't exceed the dose prescribed, stop med periodically, monitor your b/p, etc. Most important, which is why I visited this site & am hoping to find information, get REAL phentermine!!! That is probably what frightens me the most, is taking fake meds with who knows what in them!!!
Hi JellyBelly,
Glad to know that you are a nurse and work in this field. I have a question, perhaps you might be able to help me. A couple of years ago, I was diagnosed with a mild valve regurgitation. My doctor
put me on some kind of medication, which was supposed to help this. After a while, she ran some tests again, and she stated that it had helped out alot (don't know if she meant that it went away cuz I'm not sure if that can actually go away). Anyway, I did tell her that i had used phen-fen, which she told me was most likely the cause of my valve problem. All of this happened about 4-5 years ago. Of course, I am still using phen (not phen-fen as they removed it from the market) but I am still a bit worried about whether or not phen alone would cause such problems. My doctor moved so I really don't have a particular doctor. It seems that everytime i trust a doctor in telling them of my phen usage, they either move or something. I am going to get myself a doctor and have them check out if i still have the same problem or not. But my question is this, why does phen cause this mitral valve regurgitation?

If you took phen-fen it is possible that that combination of drugs did cause valvular problems. Most importantly, it was the FEN part (Pondimin or Redux) that was responsible for the problems. Research did not show a relationship between valve disease & phentermine. MR is caused because the valve between the top & bottom chambers of the left side of your heart do not close completely & this allows blood from the bottom to"squish" back into the top chamber when the bottom contracts. It is most common in women, can have many other reasons---congenital, valve leaflets are stiff, rheumatic fever, infection. People live long lives with mild mitral regurg. I would let my doctor know that I had taken Phen-fen just so they have all the info!!! Believe me, we hear all kinds of stuff & if that is something that makes my doc "disapprove" of me, I would get another doc!!!
