pain medication and phen

Hi everyone
Today I went to my doctor because I was having so much pain in my back that I could not take it-
Well, I get there and the doctor is not in---I am sitting there in pain hoping he would have some answers for me.
As some of you know, I am opposed to using any kind of pain medicatons because I do not like how they make me feel.
Not a health nut but I never liked putting that stuff into my body and preferred the natural method..Motrin was bad enough..and did not work.
But today I was in so much agony I did not care.
(anyone ever feel that way?)
So I digress, Well I get there and some kid comes in and says she is filling in for my doctor-I swear she looked about 15!!!
She sent me up to the xray and then ran some blood tests and
came back down and gave me a prescription for Darvocet!
I asked her if I could take something less potent and she said that was the least potent of pain meds.
Well, I reluctantly took one and its ok so far...its not as bad as I thought it would be.
Does anyone know how Darvocet acts with Phen?
I went to ask her but she high tailed it out of the room so fast I could have sworn I saw smoke coming from her shoes!
I appreciate any info..
Thanks all...

Punchie - did she prescribe Darvocet A500 (propoxyphene)? As long as you're not on any other meds (including anything herbal), it wouldn't interact with Phen.
The Darvocet has acetaminophen in it, so be sure you don't take it in any other forms. It's bad for your liver in high doses.
Feel better! Let Mr. Punchie wait on you

Punchie,
You should be fine. Well, I mean taking the pain and phen together. I really hope your back gets better fast. I did something to my back last year and I was in a lot of pain. We have a chiropractor in town. He is great. I went to him about 3 times. He worked wonders. Also, I have a friend who tried everything. He is a dentist. He hurt his back. They mentioned surgery. He said he could not be out of work. Someone told him about a lady who did acupunture. He no longer has a problem with his back. He does go once a month now just to be on the safe side. Anyway, I really hope you get some relief soon!

I feel for you Punchie! I don't have back pain, but I get migraines and they get so bad at times that you will do ANYTHING to get relief! Hope this Darvocet works. I actually took it about 20 years ago when my childhood doc prescribed it for migraines. Don't know about phen and darvocet together. I take maxalt and imitrex with ph. and one doc used to give me codeine, and I took ph with that and never had any problem. Only took one of each though. And of course, everyone's body is different! So no one go by me about what to take with ph!! Ask your own doc!

to all of you--You are the absolute best!
Willman- I went to see a chiropractor 20 times within 6 months and there was little he could do for me--
except x-ray and adjust me-

Then he suggested I have an MRI

The initial injury came from a auto accident -Then last year I
had a run in with my kids toy-not good.
Sugar--Yes, they are , They look like this image

This doctor prescribed 3 a day!
I was:

Holy crud! if I took that many I would be like

I so appreciate all the info and now feel like I can rest a
little and not worry...
Again, Thanks so much everyone...
Hi Punchie! I am so sorry about your back....I've had back pain before that made me quiver it hurt so badly....I think the darvocet should be a good choice - it helped me tremendously when I had sinus surgery years ago.
I am not able to get on the forum much now that it's summer; miss everyone! Still taking my phen and losing little by little, and grateful for that. I really wish you well, Punchie, and like Sugar says, let Mr. Punchie wait on you....that made me smile

Hey Punchie-
What a coincidence! A week ago Friday I tweaked my back (how? I don't know) and spent two days hobbling around the house. I could barely feed the dog; I would put the food in a bowl and get it close to the ground, about 1 foot, and then would just have to drop it. My husband and son were gone on a trip so no help there. We have stairs too, so I had to use my arms to help myself up the stairs. I was having spasms when I tried to walk.
I was in a lot of pain and I just wanted something to make it go away! On Monday, I went to the Dr.; she gave me muscle relaxers, a script for an anti-inflammatory, an order to get x-rays, AND a script for Vicodin. I didn't say anything but I hate Vicodin; that is one Rx I'm not getting filled.
I have spent the last week trying to recover; it's amazing how many things we do that involve the back muscles!
Got x-rays on Wed.; today got a call that she wants to 'discuss' their findings next week. It's probably osteoarthritis or something like that.
Hang tight there Punchie...you'll feel better little by little. I'm surprised she didn't offer you muscle relaxers. Those were a godsend to me. She even offered me a shot of some sort in the affected area; I think a cortisone shot. I told her I'd try the meds first and let her know.

what did you do to your back..... I know the phen will actually cause a great deal of stress in my lower back, and I take hydros with them all the time, no problem.
Punchie,
Bless your heart!! You have a sense of humor even when you are in pain. Well, I really hope you get some relief really soon. Take care of yourself!!!!

Punchie, I had knee replacement 2 months ago and still need 1-2 pain pills a day...one when I'm not very active and 2 when physically active which is only about 50% of what I did presurgery. I just got back on phen a few weeks ago. After being off of it for 6 weeks, I was expecting a higher level response than what I got. After afew days, it was as if I'd never been off it. Anyway, getting back to your question - I take hydroco/APAP 10-325 mg. and haven't experienced
any problems. I, too, am experiencing back pain which my physical therapist thinks is a result of incorrect walking, putting more weight on the good side. It's like learning how to walk and climb stairs again.
Using a good heating pad on the back can bring some relief. Hope your back feels better soon.

Punchie, oh I can relate, I have all kinds of lower back problems, I finally had to have surgery a few years ago, but my doc said that I would have chronic problems with my back the rest of my life. I also do not like prescription pain meds so I try just taking Advil when I get a flair up. I have also taken Celebrex (anti-inflammatory) and Flexeril (muscle relaxer) in the past but since it is chronic I try not to take pain pills. If you have any question feel free to ask me I have done a tremendous amount of research over the years on back pain.
Take care and I hope you feel better.
