In reading alot of the posts I see a constant reference to how Meridia is not helping with munching or appetite control. Please don't forget, meridia is not an appetite suppressent. It is not meant to control when you eat or even what you eat for that matter, unless you experience one of its side effects (loss of appetite).
What it should do is control HOW MUCH you eat in a sitting by giving you a sense of fullness. That inturn should make you stop eating long before you normally would, resulting in a much lower caloric intake. There is still a level of discipline required in order for this drug to work successfully. Such as choosing meals that are low in fat, carbs, but higher in proteins and fiber, exercising too. If you cannot control eating beyond feeling full (as in feeling engorged) it probably won't help you much either and you should seriously consider a more suitable alternative.
I've been on Meridia for 3 weeks and have lost 14lbs so far. I am completely guilty of not exercising much but I try very hard to monitor what I put in my mouth, try hard not to eat unless I feel hungry or if too much time has passed since my last meal, and limit my snacking to healthier choices if necessary. I find that drinking water before I eat also adds to the "fuller feeling" effect.
Since I am losing more weight than the recommended 2 - 3 lbs a week, I choose not to exercise much for fear of losing too much too quickly. I'm sure my avg of 5 lbs a week will taper and at that point I will introduce exercise into my routine. My goal is to lose 30lbs (in case anyone was interested).
And before I forget ... there has not been any approved generic of Meridia so PLEASE BE CAREFUL!!!
Good Luck everyone!! |

Hi again SweetPea,
YOu are right, its not that meridia is an appetite suppressant, but it makes your mind think that you are full and satisfied and we need to take advantage of that to guide us through our diet. Alot of overeating is habit, eating seconds because its so good you just want more, we just have to be honest with ourselves and remind ourselves that we NEED to loose weight (and want to), no seconds and no junk food, I try to always leave left overs on my plate, it actually has become a game, which is molding new habits. Plus it does help to come in to the forum and reread how everyone is doing, we need continuous support to keep progressing with a diet, no matter what diet youve chosen. I think I am in like week 6 or 7 and I still do not have any side affects, and I think that drinking alot of water, continuously all day long, really contributes to that. I have noticed while I am at work, if I have not drank for over an hour or two, I do get a dry mouth, but it only reminds me to drink more water!
