I receive many emails asking about certain supplements kick-starting or sustaining weight loss.
Within the broad range of dietary supplements exist a sub-set of products designed to aid weight loss. Many of these products have clinical data supporting their efficacy. For example, weight watcher shakes contain Glucomannan, which tricks your stomach into thinking you are fuller than you really are…Causing you to eat less at lunch and/or dinner!

On the other hand, a general vitamin pill has no effect on weight loss.

Yes, small frequent meals are the best way to go. BUT......if you're going to be eating this often you HAVE to make sure you are eating healthy food, otherwise you're just increasing your intake of fattening unhealthy food.....which will cause you to GAIN weight.

The hardest part of eating this way is the planning. You have to plan ahead of time what you will eat. I've found that making extra for dinner (a nutrious well balanced dinner) and then putting the left overs (appropriate portion sizes) in those glad disposable containers.

That way all I have to do is pop it in the microwave.

The glad containers making eating 6 small meals a day much easier because you can have your meals all ready to go.....just make them up ahead of time.

I just started my second round of an inteance workout that burns about six hundred calories a day on workout. I do this six times a week.

My first time through I think I missed the boat by not eating enough. I have spend the last couple of months studying food and the effects it has on the body and I think if you eat right, I could eat more and fuel my weight loss.

For me not eating enough caused me to hit a plateau. So this time around I might eat almost twice as much to fuel my new workouts.

Jason, I use thedailyplate.com. You can enter your weight and goals (weight loss or gain) up to two pounds a week. It tells you your calorie needs to lose that amount and you can track what you eat to make sure you stay on track. You can also track your workouts which does change your caloric needs. You change your calorie intake as you lose weight. Alot of people use it to maintain their weight loss once they've met their goals. This site is free and I know there are other free sites also. Find one you like. They also have groups and forums so you can meet others with your same goals. Hope this helps. From the looks of it, you're eating too little for the amount you're exercising. Your metabolism will shut down if its not getting enough calories to support your activity and just daily life.

Ninjamom, you are eating too little. 2 small meals a day puts your body in starvation mode and it will try its hardest to store everything that you eat because your body thinks that it is literally starving. Your metabolism slows way down, fat storing hormones are released and you will have an even harder time losing weight.

Do just the opposite. Eat 6 small meals and snacks a day. Your body will get itself out of starvation mode because it will see food coming into it every few hours.

I personally think that too much calorie counting is bad thing. You can really trap yourself into a vicious circle of always having to count them and as soon as you mess up, you will gain weight even faster due to the slow metabolism you have created.

I have tried this approach and agree with it. The problem I have is that I will do great and then I eat out and eat all in sight and blow the whole thing. I think I eat to be entertained. Rolling Eyes

The 6 to 8 small meals a day is working great for me. I'm probably eating more than I was, but that combined with weights is pushing me past the plateau.

Cutting down to only 2 meals a day can really screw up your body - not just as far as weight loss. It also affects your gall bladder and liver. Small, frequent meals really are the way to go for health.

I'd like to get the rest of that article if possible. This sounds like a great plan. Logically, I know that many small meals is the way to go, but it's so hard to implement, for me anyway. I find that I end up eating 6 snacks, rather than meals. Because I'm eating so many times, I don't want to over do it, but then again, I want to ensure that I'm eating enough so that I don't go into that starvation-mode that you talk about. Any suggestions?
