ephedra vs ephedrine |
|
|
| Hey guys! I am new here and currently registering as we speak! Yay! =] I have been on Lipodrene and am seeing very slow results if nothing at all. My doctor put me on Wellbutrin to help me lose weight as well. I was on Seasonale and it has caused me to gain 50 pds in the past year. I was wondering- I have been researching believe me!- which is stronger? Ephedra or Ephedrine. I find a product I like and then i see the next one saying its stronger than the last!!! Ahh! Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you in advance for you help!!! =] |

| When the term "ephedra" is used nowadays, its often refers to a watered down extract. The real active ingredient of traditional ephedra is in fact the alkaline known as "ephedrine". Ephedrine is harder to find now but it was the substance that produced the best weight loss results. The so-call "ephedra" of today is not really effective. |

OK, correct me if I get this wrong: ephedrine is the chemical in ephedra that makes it effective. Ephedra is the plant and ephedrine is the chemical in the plant.
I used to take phentermine, but it's gotten so horribly expensive and hard to find now that I've gone back to ephedrine. Of course, the "real" ephedra pills of yesterday don't seem to be around either. (I think if the bottle says "leaves" and not "stems" then they aren't worth the money--again, please correct me if I am wrong.) So I went into my local drug store and bought bronkaid, which is ephedrine--supposed to be for bronchitis...shhhh, don't tell on me! lol! |

I am surprised at how many of u r taking this 2 lose weight. Just because it is "natural" doesn't mean it isn't harmful. My boyfriend used 2 b a drug dealer and he would mix it into amphetimine to make the speed go further, he was also addicted 2 it.
Maybe u should just go 2 ur local drug dealer an get sum speed -that'll keep u thin.
Anecdotal reports have suggested that ephedrine helps studying, thinking, or concentrating to a greater extent than caffeine. Some students and some white-collar workers have used ephedrine (or Ephedra-containing herbal supplements) for this purpose, as well as some professional athletes and weightlifters. It is common for many athletes to use stimulants while exercising. Such use of ephedrine has been associated with stimulant dependence, as well as deaths from heatstroke in athletes and circulatory problems such as aortic aneurysm in weightlifters, though these side effects are rare.[verification needed]
As a phenylethylamine, ephedrine has a similar chemical structure to amphetamines. Ephedrine can be used in the synthesis of methamphetamine by chemical reduction; this has made ephedrine a highly sought-after chemical precursor in the illicit manufacture of methamphetamine. The most popular method for reducing ephedrine to methamphetamine is similar to the Birch reduction, in that it uses anhydrous ammonia and lithium metal in the reaction. The second most popular method uses red phosphorus, iodine, and ephedrine in the reaction.
this is from wikipedia
Ephedrine is similar in structure to the synthetic derivatives amphetamine and methamphetamine. Chemically, it is an alkaloid derived from various plants in the genus Ephedra (family Ephedraceae).
Through oxidation, ephedrine can be easily synthesized into methcathinone. Ephedrine is listed as a Table I precursor under the United Nations Convention Against Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances.[8]
Ephedrine has been reported to cause both physical and psychological dependence after excessive long-term use. |

Also....
The US Food and Drug Administration has banned the sale of ephedra in dieting supplements after studies showed the substance raises blood pressure and stresses the heart. |

| I teach pharmacology in medical school. I have BS degrees in chemistry and biology. I also have a MS in science education and a PhD in pharmacology. One thing everyone must realize is that your body adjusts to whatever you are ingesting whether it be a drug or food. On that note, if you want to use drugs to loose weight, you need to keep your body guessing. Most importantly before taking this suggestion (because it is not "healthy") is to make sure you do not have high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, or are on antidepressants or cold medicines. Any stimulant will help you loose weight by either stimulating chemicals in your brain to keep you from wanting to eat or by raising your metabolism by making you burn more calories or both. See what you can get your hands on. Over the counter: ephedrine (Bronkaid, Primatine Tablets), caffiene (Vivarin, red bull, coffee), pseudoephedrine (Sudafed). The caffiene you can get anywhere, the other two are behind the counter at the drug store. Ask for them. Don't be afraid. Only ask for one box (preferably the ephedrine). They will copy down your driver's license info but it's perfectly legal. Learn to mix and match or as we call it "compounding" the medications in small doseages. If you can get ahold of these prescriptions you will be in better shape: adderal, adipex. Adipex which is phentermine is not that hard to find. You're family doc or many weight loss clinics prescribe these upon request. Adderall is a little harder but if you can find a psychiatrist, they are usually more than happy to prescribe this. The point being, don't use one medication to loose weight. You're body will adjust to it. You must use low doseages and combine several meds or use one and switch to another when it doesn't seem to work anymore. You can loose all the weight you want, but you need to keep your body from getting adjusted to one pill. Personally, I have used this method since my college days. I have not become addicted to any medication and I have lost and kept off all the weight and built muscle. I am now 8% bodyfat which I have been for almost 15 years. You can have a body of a 20 yr old. You just need to know how to do it. |

You have all those degrees and still can't spell lose correctly? Amazing.

| Yes, he's a med school professor, and he has trouble with nearly all of his homonyms. Professor, that's "lose" and "your", in case you're wondering. Good luck with lectures. |
