I am 18 right now and I have a couple of questions about weight loss. One I havent been fat my whole life. I actually have been a normal weight kid for most of my life. I was eating cereal all the time and some other stuff. I only have been fat for about 2 years now. I am wondering how long this will take off my life in years.
Next question. Ever since I was fat I have had these idiotic cravings for fast food. Hamburgers, french fries, chicken and any other junk out there. I dont know my own height but I know I am shorter than most teenagers not by alot though. Probably at around 5'5-5"7. I can only go work out 3-4 times every two weeks at my schools gym because of my academic schedrule there. I cant find any good training to do besides 45 minutes of weighlifting and ym body does try to cool down to say the least. I am starting to have a bigger chest and I admit I have man uh breasts now because my whole chest isnt slim. My arms are good I like my arms and my legs too but its all this other stuff I am worried about. I cant find anything to do for exercising I dont have good goals and I want to stop my cravings. I was almost tempted to use some weight loss pills a year back but my mother said those will literally kill you. I have a car too and fast food places are like 20 minutes away from my home and my school is about 10 minutes away. I try to stop eating fast food but I end up going at the most twice a week. I used to go everyday when I was fourteen years old. I cant help it my friend says do the Subway diet. I am trying that with Turkey and regular italian bread. Everytime I work out it says I am gaining weight. My weight shifts alot from like 190-198. I am 194 right now. I need help and I was almost tempted for surgery to get the fat out because my family CAN afford surgery if necessary but its killing me knowing I am fat right now. I need help please!

Hi Jtsnake,
Your weight problem is caused by junk food and a "sedentary" way of life. Your problem is fully treatable do not be depressed, there are millions of teenagers out there that are dealing and overcoming with this.
You need to take some kind of action, any kind of action right now! Do more sports. Swimming is very good, jogging, skiing and any kind of sport will do wonders for you. Do not use the car, go my bike. Buy a treadmill and do 20 minutes per day exercising at your place.

Avoid fast foods, try to eat healthy - salads, fish, no bread, no beer, grills, vegetables... Try not to eat at night.

There are many diet pills. Some work at the nerous system level by reducing the cravings (Phentermine, Meridia). Those are not good stay away from them. Some are just energizing and appetite suppressors. You can try them without major risks involved.

Surgery is not a good option. I would avoid that at this time.

There are lots of things you can do. The bottom line is to act, choose a way to do it, make some goals and get going.

I am sure that you can do it. Lots of people did it, if you do not believe me just see the Before and After Pics Wink

Good luck.
Stick around there are plenty of tips and advices...

Hi Jtsnake,
You can do it. Light provided some great advice and now we must follow it by making lifestyle changes. It won't do us any good to beat ourselves up over failures but instead when we fall (eat what we shouldn't) we need to stand up again (recommitt) .
It's good that you are addressing this young because the longer you wait the harder it is.
The first things I've done to improve my health is:
1. Increase intake of plain water.
2. No more regular soda-only diet soda.
3. No more candy bars, twinkies, etc.
4. Portion control........ Don't eat straight out of a bulk source-take out and put in bowl only a sensible portion. I.E. I used to grab a whole bag of chips with the intention of eating a couple and before you knew it I'd eaten the whole bag full.
We are hard pressed but not crushed...Press on towards the goal.

Hello,

Loosing weight is not an easy task because i have suffered from this problem. There are few steps to be followed for quick weightloss.

Once you have made up your mind to lose weight, you should make the commitment to the weight loss tips and go into it with a positive attitude. We all know that losing weight can be quite a challenge and for some people is nearly impossible. For losing weight it takes time, practices of the weight loss tips and support from your family members and friends to change lifetime habits. But it’s a process you must learn in order to succeed. For losing weight, you and you alone are the one who has the power.

Always think like a winner but not a loser as remember that emotions are like muscles and the ones you use most grow the strongest. If you always look at the negative side of things, you’ll become a loser, pessimistic person and downbeat. Don’t even let a slightest negative thought as they have a greater impact on you and last longer than the powerful positive thoughts.

Hey I am just responding to an old post. I was about 196-198 in early december 2005 from what I remember. As of today I did workout in the gym 2-3 days for 1 hour a day. I ran around my hometown everyday which is 4.5 miles everyday with an mp3 player. I do martial arts 4 times a week for 1 hour. I actually did bowling 2 times a week for 3-4 hours until my league disbanded. Now its only 1 time a week for 2-3 hours by myself. I still eat fast food but not as much anymore. Probably like once every month now. Every time I eat it now it feels really really really bad. But good news is I went down to 182-184. Only one thing that concerns me. I see change in my upper arms and my face but my stomach is still as fat as it was in december 2005. Anything wrong with what I am doing or do I just need to keep doing what I am doing in order to see my fat stomach vanish? FYI I did not take any pills to make me lose weight. The way I did it is the way everyone should do it.

Keep it up!!!

You are doing great, and the problem spots do take longer than the rest to respond, but as you lose more fat it will start coming off of everywhere. Sounds like you have a good mix of exercise, but still don't forget to change it up a little so your body doesn't get used to it. Also are you doing strength training? you said you are going to the gym but you could be doing a number of things there. Strength training is one of the best ways to lose weight because it helps prevent fat gain in the future.

JTSNAKE-let me tell you how i started...i was a junk eater i had alot of junk food, cheeseburgers everything you can imagine. on new years i went to the stores to buy new clothes. everything that i tried on i loved but they just wouldn't fit either becus of my thighs or stomach. my husband was with me and he said well y don't you lose weight...after that i was home look in my mirror and i really did not like what i saw. i was at 257#. on jan 4, 2006 i decided to take the lipovarin pills becus i would hear great result on here and some not so great. i had the money and order them to try. i never tool any pills in my life. one time i ask my docs and he said no not unless i wanted to be in the hospital. but at the time i had kidney problems so i avoided them. anyays on jan i started doing excercises and taking the pills. i did not whatsoever have any side effects. i felt very energized and my cravings disappeared. i really like them becus my cravings were gone. next thing i kow my weight was coming off. the first week with the excercises and pills. i only toook lipovarin for 2 weeks becus i thought wow if i stick with the excercises it might come off on its own. so after 2 weeks i stopped lipovarin to try on my own. after that i stuck to my excercises everyday and now i have lost over 30#. i take it little by little one day at a time. i am not in no rush to lose weight but i have notice alot of changes. for the first time in years i am wearing a size 13. i had never excercised i don't know in how long. but i tell you when i decided to do this it was becus my cholesterol was high and docs wanted to give me medication. i said no i'll try to loose weight. just found out my cholesterol is down to normal. i was so happy. even my docs was happy for me. i eat right sometimes when i have appoinments don't have time to do excercises i get back on the next day but i get on them. i do not drink sodas , coffe anymore. before i drank more than five or six cans a day ok. i only drink water. but today even though i am still fat i feel better about myself. i have goals that i do every month. to lose from 5 to 8 pounds. in one month i lose about 10 pounds. now its going a little slow but wether it takes me a year to lose the weight i will do it. see if i started in jan i know that by this december coming up i should be less than what i am now. YOU CAN DO IT. IF IT WASN'T FOR THIS FORUMS I WOULDNT BE WHERE I AM NOW BECUASE I ASK THESE PEOPLE FOR ADVICE ON THE PILL AND THEY GAVE IT TO ME. they are great advisors.

I know they give great advice. But I am not going to take any pills. Its doesnt matter even if they work. They will hurt anyone in the long run. Thats a reason I dont take them. Thanks though.

Im down to 178 pounds with much better toning on my arms and legs but my stomach looks the same. Only problem is now that I am graduating from high school and I am going to a local college weight loss might be a problem. Not time wise but I wont have a gym now and the college I am going to doesnt have a gym because I checked and I dont just want to do cardio. I begged my mother to have me go to the other college but its too expensive and it has a gym. Problem is I been looking for another job since I was 15 and I cant find any near me. My current job I am making 21 dollars a week for three hours working one day. Thats not going to help me live. I cant find a job anywhere and I tried to ask under minimum wage a couple dollars lower and people still wont hire me. What the heck am I supposed to do now? Im going to be fat again and broke out of my mind when I go to college.
